Welcome to our golden triangle.

The key towns of the Canola Trail are Temora, Coolamon and Junee, on Wiradjuri Country, in the Riverina region of New South Wales, in south-eastern Australia. To drive between the three towns takes about two hours:

Junee to Coolamon – 40km (30 minutes)

Coolamon to Temora – 60km (45 minutes)

Temora to Junee – 54km (40 minutes)

But what’s the rush?

Put your foot on the brake and pull into the small villages and crossroads in between – they’re your gateway to vibrant little art communities, mountain biking trails, local produce and instagram-ready boutique stays.

This is Australia’s wheat belt, a prosperous wheat and sheep district soaked in stories of gold diggers and ghost hunters, of planes and trains, of big dreams and even bigger skies.

Here, you can meet the makers and creators, soak up 1920s streetscapes, fossick through little boutiques or bric-a-brac shops looking for that golden find. Spot kangaroos at sunrise and sunbaking goannas at high noon on forest walks and lake loops. And who doesn’t love a leaping, spring lamb and flowering bushland?

We’re super proud that nearly one third of all NSW’s canola is grown here. Each spring through August and September, the region basks in a golden budburst as the canola crop comes into flower. To see our world as the birds do, take off from Temora airport in a hot-air balloon and listen to the shush of the wind through the ropes – the world is at your feet.

Roadtrippers and cyclists, soak yourselves in yellowness on a self-drive adventure past the canola fields. The golden glow is unmissable, but the crop rotates every year, so the best way to find out the best country roads to drive down and hot photo locations, ask the locals.

Our information centres are all staffed by local staff and volunteers, pick up a map or grab a visitor guide to the region. You’ll find them here;

Junee Library, 92 Lorne St, Junee

Bundawarrah Centre cultural precinct, 29 Junee Rd, Temora

Coolamon Fire Museum, 46 Loughnan St, Coolamon

There’s more to the Canola Trail than just those bright, beautiful, eye-poppingly yellow fields of flowers. It’s also about the heart, soul, history and future of the towns and villages of our golden triangle.

Sleep in a railway carriage, in a 100-year-old pub, an old bank, even a former church. There are freedom camps and farm stays, motels and hotels. There’s no need to hurry…take a breath of that fresh, country air, you’ll know you want to stay another night.

It’s only half an hour to anywhere on the Canola Trail. But while the distances are small, the discoveries are great.

Slow down and soak up all the soul-warming, yellow goodness of the Canola Way.
