FAQs

Where is the Canola Trail?

You’ll find us in the Riverina region of NSW taking in the shires of Coolamon, Junee and Temora, just a short detour off the Olympic, Sturt and Newell Highways. We’re approximately 480km from Melbourne and Sydney, 250km from Canberra and just 40km from Wagga Wagga.

When’s the best time to visit the Canola Trail?

The canola blooms usually from mid-August through to the end of September. This can vary slightly as farming is weather dependent. We recommend checking in with us via our Facebook or Instagram pages. Even when the canola isn’t in bloom, we’re still pretty proud of our scenic farming landscapes, vibrant events, boutique shopping and local cafes and restaurants, not to mention our museums and attractions showcasing the history and heritage of our region. Plan your trip by reading Places to See  and Things to Do. There’s something for everyone, all year round.

Can I get a photo in the canola?

We get it; if you didn’t get the photo, did it really happen? There are a few things to keep in mind before you go click-tastic!

It’s important to follow these points below before you enter private property:
1. Always seek permission from the farmer before entering their property.
2. Be mindful of biosecurity measures in place to protect crops and prevent the spread of diseases or pests.
3. Park safely on the side of the road before you jump out to take a pic. We don’t want any traffic jams!
You can get the perfect pic from the fence!

To keep our farmers happy and our farms safe, to read up on canola etiquette . By following these steps and being respectful of our farmers’ property, you can enjoy capturing your photos responsibly.

Is the Canola Trail pet friendly?

We love hounds and their humans! The Canola Trail is an RV-friendly region that welcomes all types of travellers, and you’ll be spoilt by choice of campgrounds, which range from riverside free camps to caravan parks with all amenities.

For the furry ones, we have a number of off-leash areas. In Junee, head to the grassed area just before the Junee Tourist Park in Park Lane or the grassed area along the Olympic Highway between De Salis Drive and Monte Cristo Road.

If your pooch needs to stretch their legs in Temora, let them run free at the Golden Gate Reserve, which is surrounded by Austral and Gardner St and Cootamundra Rd, or the purpose-built dog agility park at Lake Centenary.

Can I take a guided tour along the Canola Trail?

The Canola Trail is a self-drive adventure. So you can explore and wander at your own pace; to see, do,  hear and taste at your own speed along the trail.

Currently, there are no guided tours, but if you thought we looked good from the ground, we look even better from above. You can book a hot-air balloon flight with Goldrush Ballooning to glide through the sky over our golden fields – it’s magic!
